Day Twenty-Two of "31 Days of Love": Helping Out Maria with Her Daily Grind

Today was pretty different than usual.

Now I wrote on Day 2 about my roommate Eric and how he's been drinking a bottle of SmartWater every day. He's been saving up the water bottles but recently ran out of space for them.

He's been meaning to throw them all away, but I told him we should hold onto them because I often see those people who go through trash cans to collect bottles and cans and it would be really nice to give all our bottles to them.

Today after my business class I was walking back to my dorm room praying for God to reveal an opportunity to show love to someone today.

Then bam! That's when I saw her, this Hispanic lady that I've seen collecting bottles around my dorms before!

I spoke to her, with my terribly broken Spanish, and told her that I had a lot of water bottles in my room and that I wanted to give them to her. Haha, she kind of chuckled while I was struggling to communicate. I asked her if she spoke any English, but she said "No, nada".

She agreed and we walked and talked a bit. I learned that she had moved to LA from Mexico City about ten years ago.

After I came back with the box of water bottles, I unloaded them all into her cart. She said "thank you very much" many times over.

I told her my name and then asked what her name was, and she told me it was Maria. I told her that I hope to see her again and "Jesus te ama", which means "Jesus loves you".

To this she paused, looked up at me, and seemed surprised. She said something in Spanish that I didn't understand and proceeded to walk away.

I was able to get a couple pictures of her as she was walking away.

:) God is good! Pray for Maria! Pray that God would provide for her what she needs, that she would know and trust in the Lord, and that God would reward her for her persistence and hard work.
