Day Twenty-Five of "31 Days of Love": Making Sydney a Sandwich and Fellowshipping with Him

Yesterday evening, my homeless friend Sydney (I've blogged about him before) gave me a phone call.

He asked if we could meet up today and we agreed on around 2pm.

I knew he'd be hungry so after I was done eating my own meal at Parkside, I made him a beautiful sandwich at the sandwich bar.

I wrapped it in some napkins and headed over to where I usually meet up with him.

When I got there, he wasn't anywhere to be seen, but a couple of other homeless people where there. As I waited for Sydney, I got to talk to these people. They were pretty rude and didn't really want the kind of help I was offering them. One of them was a little sketchy and dishonest with me, but hopefully God's light reaches them soon. I was still loving to them though.

I was just about to leave in disappointment and was crossing the street when I saw Sydney coming my direction! Woo hoo! Perfect timing!

We exchanged greetings, sat down at a nice shady spot, and talked for more than a half hour. We had a great talk. As he chowed down on the delicious sandwich, he told me about how life has been for him and how he's hoping for housing soon.

He asked me about my studies and how life's been for me and soon after we got to talking about some spiritual things.

He shared with me some pretty deep and personal things, but one thing we talked about was how he did not attend church regularly because he was already blessed by believers he ran into from time to time.

We discussed this for a while, and I eventually felt that the Lord wanted me to encouraged Sydney to go to church regularly and be a part of a community of believers. He responded very faithfully and said he would try his best.

We prayed for each other and when I opened my eyes, Sydney had tears welling up in his eyes and he told me he was very touched and that his heart was beating fast (AWWWWW). We then shared how much we appreciate each other :) Soon after, we parted ways.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Closing thoughts: Sydney is the best. He prays for me every single night. He never asks me for money or food. He takes genuine interest in my life. He loves spending time in prayer and definitely has the light and hope of the Lord within him.

lease pray for Sydney if your heart desires. He has diabetes and stiff legs. He is waiting on Section 8 housing from the government and hoping for a job as well. Also pray that Sydney comes through on his decision to commit to going to church more and following the Lord more faithfully, and that no amount of the Devil's efforts will stop this from happening.

Amen!
