Day Eight of "31 Days of Love": Picking up a DVD Abandonded on the Floor at Ralphs

Day Eight.

It seems God always provides an opportunity to show love in small or big ways as long as my heart is willing, even if it comes to me in the last few hours of the day.

Today I showed a pretty small act of love.

I was at Ralphs with a few friends after Good Friday service at church. Because I had yet to do my act of love for the day, my eyes were peeled for people who looked like they needed help in some way. While my friends were getting their things, I was roaming around the store looking for a love opportunity.

I was walking past the frozen foods aisle and the lights in the refrigerated big refrigerator? things kept blinking on and off. I thought to myself, perhaps this is God's beckoning to come down this aisle.

I walked down that aisle, looking around, and about midway through the aisle I came across something on the ground.

It ended up being a DVD - abandoned, fallen, and depressed.

I guess someone just left it there? I'm puzzled at how it ended up there.

I thought about it and I knew someone working at the store would eventually have to pick it up and return it to its place in the DVD stack. Why not take care of it for them?

So long story short, I picked it up and returned it to where it belonged. I wonder why so many people just walked by it.

* I've really been rethinking what an act of love can be. What really constitutes an act of love? What sets "loving" apart from "nice"? Does it have to be a gift? A meal provided? Company for a lonely person? An encouraging word? A DVD picked up off the floor?
