Today was a good day.
What better way to start off the new year than with family and food? :D
Though I had only gotten 4-5 hours of sleep, I woke up surprisingly quickly and was wide awake the moment I jumped out of bed. This is extremely rare for me. I usually take about 2-3 hours to be fully awake after my hibernations. So I knew it was going to be a good day.
After a quick breakfast my mom and sister and I left for San Diego. The car ride was a bit wearisome. It was a two-hour drive and it was very warm so I got a teeeeny bit drowsy at the wheel but I managed to stay awake. Which was good because I listened to some good sermons on the way.
The one that was really interesting to me was this one about the infamous "New Year's Resolutions", or as the Pastor called it, New Year's Dissolutions. I don't remember the exact statistics but he cited a University of Washington study that surveyed people on their new year's resolutions and kept up with them periodically to see how many of them actually kept up their plans to change. I believe the statistics were something like only 75% of people made it past the first week, and after 6 months, less than half of those people still kept up with their resolutions.
The pastor gave his reason for this. He says that unless God really wills that change in your life and gives you the ability to do so, you most likely will not be able to follow through. He gave an example of a TV ad he saw where a buff guy promised (for only 29.95) 6-pack abs in only 8 weeks, and joked about becoming the most ripped pastor in the whole church. His point was, God know what is best for us and that our sole resolution should be to submit to His will and depend on Him alone. Not to make our own plans and goals, but to allow God to work in our lives as He pleases.
So, that is my new year's resolution. To submit completely and fully to His will. I made resolutions in the past to get buffer, to be more studious, etc and failed miserably at all of them. Instead, I will let God do with my life as He knows is best. That doesn't mean I will try not to be such a fat bum, or keep my room more clean; it just means I will be leaving the big things up to Him. Instead of trying to have someone else's body or grades or college or car or job or life, I'm going to "let go and let God".
Anyway, that's my little religious bit.
When we finally got to our Uncle's house, we met up with all the cousins, aunts, and everybody else (allmooost). It was especially nice to see the little kids again. They grew up soooo much! I love em all!
Food was great (though I didn't have too much of an appetite) and it was really nice to catch up with Peter and Naomi. Everyone told me I grew a lot and a few of the older women felt the need to tell me that I have a lot acne. As if I did not know this. :( I HATE KOREAN MOMS!
They also were very interested in where I wanted to go to college and all that. Naomi is going to BC right now and since I applied there, she was super interested in telling me all about it. She really told me a loooot of great things about it and it seems like a very nice school in alot of ways. If I get in with a good financial aid package, I think it will be one of my top 2 or 3 choices for sure.
But yeah, it was very relaxing and alot of fun. Pretty much everyone in there was saved so that was a very nice environment to be in. The home was super nice and the community was pretty upscale (practically built on top of a lake/golf course).
Got home around 7. My aunt and two uncles are here which is awesome. I hope they give me sae-bae-dohn. I got $40 bucks earlier today. I think I have matured alot though. In previous years I really got excited over the money but this time around I really just wanted to spend time with family and the money was a pleasant surprise. But now that I got a little taste, I WANT MORE! :D
I hate hearing about those kids who get like several hundred dollars over Christmas/New Years. So lucky >:(
Oh well.
I think this is a sufficiently lengthed entry.
I will update about my prayer topics tomorrow maybe. I got great news from a friend who just got back from her retreat. More next time.
Yeap.
Lol.. Korean moms hahaha.
