Day Two of "31 Days of Love": Being Nice to my Roommate and Helping Out a Lost Korean Man

Day Two was quick!

I woke up around noon and brushed my teeth. I came back in and my roommate Eric was crying about how he really wanted a SmartWater.

To understand why he so badly wanted a SmartWater, you need to know a little background.

My roommate began a new initiative of his own about a week ago. He wanted to make sure to drink the daily recommended 8 cups of water a day, and upon finding out that one SmartWater bottle has 6 cups of water in it, he decided he would drink one of them a day.

This is great, but the only thing that bothers me is that he usually steals them from the Lot (a food place by our dorm). And stealing is bad!

So yesterday, he went to the Lot to get (steal) some SmartWater but they were out of stock. When he told me about this I laughed and said "That's what you get FOOL!"

But this morning, as I woke up I wondered what I would do for the day and when I heard Eric whining, I decided I would make the trip over to the Lot to check if they had restocked on SmartWater and buy him one. A pretty small act of kindness, but Eric was really happy about it (he's such a child) when I told him I was going to go check for him.

Turns out they had some! A whole fresh supply!

So I got one for him and myself and headed back.

On the way back, this lone Korean man stopped me to ask me a question. He was standing next to a map of USC and asked me where he could find the Journalism School.

I'm really glad I got to meet this man because he would have been so lost and frustrated without some help because it can be really hard to get around without some help around here. Especially because he's from New Jersey.

The one question he asked me turned into a 10 minute broke Korean/English conversation about the pros/cons of USC, where his daughter should attend school, the crime around USC, etc.

I gave him a lot of information and my personal opinions and experiences here.

He was really grateful for it and shook my hand and bowed to me a bit (WTF). If you know Korean culture, an adult bowing his head to a a young person like me is really unheard of.

But he did, so I know I must have been a HUGE relief to him. Awesome :D

I then came back to my dorm and gave Eric his SmartWater. He was pretty dang smiley.

So I took a picture of him next to his growing SmartWater collection!

So praise God for letting me show love to TWO people in less than an hour after waking up! :)

*** On a side note: This is really starting to become more natural for me and I'm now constantly looking for ways to show love and kindness to people. It's totally changing my attitude towards people and life. Woo hoo!
