They were having a Blood Drive here at my school so I decided I would give my own precious blood (ahhhhh) as my act of love/kindness for the day.
Though it's nothing particularly outstanding or amazing, I definitely did not want to give blood today, so from that perspective, God's love in me definitely lead me to live out love sacrificially today, giving up my time and comfort for someone who would need my blood more than me.
He definitely lead me to talk myself out of talking myself out of giving blood. So praise God for that!

I was pretty nervous about getting pricked. I've given blood before but still, the knowledge of impending pain is always a bit unsettling. Thankfully, the Lord lead me to remember Jesus, the blood he had to spill, the pain and fear before and during the ordeal, and the humility and compassion he did it with.
Thinking of those things not only made me feel like a wimpy schoolgirl, but reminded me to be compassionate about why I was giving blood in the first place and heartened me up a little too.
I actually ended up having a pretty good time. I joked around with the nurses that were tending to me and tried to bring a bit of encouragement and energy to their long day (they had been there for several hours).
I got a picture of the nurse who pricked me. Her name was Connie and she was really camera shy. I don't know why she made this face. She was really nice and sweet and professional and had a good sense of humor.

Yup. I hope my blood saves a life.
*EDIT- Word on the streets is one pint? of blood saves three lives actually.
Anyway, looking forward to tomorrow.
yep- 3 lives! hehe good job. they have those blood drives every couple months at college campuses so you should do them as much as you can.
ReplyDeletei think im not meant to do it though! i've only been able to do it twice cuz the last THREE times i've signed up to try to give blood, something always came in the way. a couple months ago i skipped class to donate and waited like an hour cuz they were backed up, only to hear they wouldn't accept me because of the recent "major blood loss" from my "serious injury" (i still had the gauze wrapping on my hand). disappointed, i returned to the waiting area and had 3 bags of cookies. go red cross!
wow three times in a row is a lot haha. youre pretty dedicated as heck though.
ReplyDeletekeep trying? haha
and what serious injury?
